Portrait of a Graveyard

by Lauren Firth

This, the echoed crack of
a hundred broken necks.
A hillside engulfed in
frozen sunlight, where
bouquets wilt and fade on impact.
Carved in stone, the brief
summation of brief life.
So many unclaimed loves,
So many empty hands.
And who am I to haunt unwanted -
but an old soul with a filthy heart.
